The Bix Memorial Jazz Festival is an annual traditional jazz festival that honors the legacy and contributions of local jazz legend Bix Beiderbecke. TAG is tasked annually with developing a new look and feel for the festival event collateral, keeping it fresh and relevant while honoring the history of this rich tradition of musical style.
Each year TAG takes a clean-slate approach to the design of the Bix Memorial Jazz Festival event collateral, keeping in mind where the festival has been and where it is going in the future. This approach provides a great variety of work, and this "unity through variety" allows the festival to reinvent itself year after year, providing the potential to attract new audiences who may have never been exposed to traditional jazz.
Through an integrated social media marketing and design strategy, TAG helped the Bix Memorial Jazz Festival expand their message into new audiences, reaching as far as New York, Texas, Florida, St. Louis and Chicago. With a dedicated Facebook Ads strategy to drive traffic to the ticket sales section of their website, TAG was able to send an additional 6,500 potential festival-goers through the Bix Memorial Jazz Festival purchase funnel.
The design of the 2015 Bix Memorial Jazz Festival poster showcases bright, expressive colors creating a sense of energy and are representative of the playfulness and improv style of traditional jazz. The expressive strokes give a sense of vibrancy and movement, trademarks of this style of jazz. The poster draws inspiration from the 1920s and iconic designs such as The Great Gatsby original book cover.
The festival's souvenir program is a collector's item for many. The look and feel of the poster art is carried seamlessly to the program, which highlights the festival lineup, upcoming jazz events for youth and adults as well as historical stories about the legend of Bix Beiderbecke. The consistency of the visual language across all event materials leads to a more concrete connection with festival-goers.
I have been working with TAG on the Bix Jazz Festival and it has been great. TAG has helped us explore avenues to reach new markets and bring in new demographics.
